RELEASED: April 5, 2022
Clatsop County Public Health Service is reminding parents that the deadline for meeting annual state school immunization requirements is Wednesday, April 20.
For children attending school, kindergarten or childcare, families must provide proof of vaccination by this date. The required vaccinations for children vary – the The Oregon Health Authority lists specific requirements.
Vaccinations against COVID-19 are NOT required under state immunization regulations.
Clatsop County Public Health and community partners have reached out to parents to ensure they are aware of the deadline and to provide them with resources. Parents can make appointments for their children’s vaccinations by calling Public Health (503-325-8500) or at local pharmacies. Child vaccinations are available at little or no cost and insurance may be charged.
Please note that emergency clinics do NOT provide vaccination services.
This year, the Oregon Health Department allowed local health officials to extend vaccination deadlines in response to challenges schools and health care providers are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We know how stressful these past two years of isolation and quarantine have been for students and families,” said Margo Lalich, director of public health. “We have postponed this annual requirement to give parents more time to vaccinate their children.”
Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect children from preventable diseases such as whooping cough, measles and chickenpox
