The Silver Lake boat dock in Marquette County will be closed for several days starting Thursday due to site upgrades.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Division staff will work with the 107th

A gravel boat ramp, a parking lot and the expansion of the gravel driveway on state-managed land are features of the expansions to be carried out.

For safety reasons, vehicles and pedestrians are not allowed to enter the building during construction. There are no alternative routes available to get to this location. Travelers on the roads in the area should expect heavy machine traffic.

The work should be completed on October 12th.

The Silver Lake Basin is northwest of Ishpeming, a destination known to anglers for pike, perch and panfish.

In February 2020, after the DNR proposed walk-in access to the lake, it held a public session in Negaunee Township. The meeting’s participants rejected this idea and instead advocated only modest improvements.

In May 2003, a locking screw failed on the dam, releasing nine million gallons of water downstream, ultimately leading to the failure of the Tourist Park Dam in Marquette.
