Insurance plan for health care workers extended by 180 days

New Delhi, October 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The central government on Wednesday extended the “Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package: Insurance Scheme for Healthcare Workers Fighting Covid-19” for a further 180 days. The current period of the insurance policy ends on Wednesday.

The program was launched on March 30 last year to provide comprehensive personal accident coverage from Rs 50 lakh to 22.12 lakh to health care providers, including community health workers and health workers. individuals who may have been in direct contact with and caring for Covid-19 patients and may be at greater risk of infection.

The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) program provides Rs 50 lakh to the family of health workers employed in public health establishments who died as a result of Covid-19.

As the Covid-19 pandemic still has not abated and deaths of health workers deployed for Covid-related duties are still being reported in different states / UTs, the insurance policy has been extended with effect. to October 21 for a further 180 days to continue providing the safety net for dependents of health workers who are responsible for caring for Covid-19 patients, the ministry said in a statement.

So far, 1,351 claims have been paid under this program, the statement added.

A letter to this effect has been sent to additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and all state / UT secretaries.
