Lionel Messi FREE AGENT, Alderweireld set to leave Tottenham EXCLUSIVE, Trincao joins Wolves, Chelsea latest news

Alan Nixon of SunSport has revealed that Graham Potter intends to catch his former players Dan James and Joe Rodon.

The Brighton manager is hoping to get the green light to land fast winger James this summer.

The 23-year-old Welsh midfielder has seen his Manchester United game chances hit hard by the £ 73million arrival of Jadon Sancho.

In addition to James, Potter is on alert for his fellow Welshman, Rodon.

The Tottenham center-half, also 23, could be available with the North Londoners closing in on Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

James first came to prominence in Swansea under Potter, who used his frantic pace to deadly effect.

The winger would receive the games he needs at this point in his career on the South Coast.

Meanwhile, SunSport’s Phil Thomas reports that Old Trafford outcast Donny van de Beek could have a central role in Manchester United’s attempt to land Raphael Varane.

United have had initial talks with Real Madrid over signing the French center-back, which is said to cost around £ 50million.

But Real are also keen to take 24-year-old Van de Beek to the Bernabeu on a one-year loan, with a commitment to buy 12 months later.

And United believe it gives them a key negotiating tool in their pursuit of Varane, who tops their list of center-back targets.

Varane, 28, has one more season on his contract and can sign a pre-contract deal in January.

While the Spanish giants would like to keep him, they don’t want to lose him for free either – especially since they’re currently strapped for cash.

United are therefore more likely to play ball against Van de Beek, if that gives them a little leeway by signing Varane, who is also on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar.

Ironically, the Red Devils pushed Real to sign the Dutch midfielder in a £ 35million transfer from Ajax last summer.

And finally, Leeds United are set to close a deal for Junior Firpo but the decision is delayed, according to reports.

A deal was reached with Barcelona for his transfer, but Covid protocols halted progress after his trip to England.

Firpo is currently in quarantine before undergoing a medical exam at Thorp Arch.

Leeds did not say when the medical examination will take place, according to Mundo Deportivo.

And since this is the next step in the transfer process, there has been a delay in reaching a deal for the defender.

The Whites are said to have had an offer worth £ 13million accepted for the 24-year-old, who will sign a four-year contract.
